The flight from Prague to Rome was pretty quick, only about an hour and 15 minutes. We arrived to the airport about 2pm and arrived to our apartment just before 3pm.
When we arrived at the apartment, the manager made me sign a contract and pay for some city fee before we were handed the keys. We were quite exhausted, so we spent a bit of time settling in before going out to do anything. When we got hungry we went to the sandwich place next door. I ordered the lunch special: Porchetta and Broccoletti. Verdict: Delicious.
After our late lunch, we decided to explore a bit and found St. Peter’s Basilica. It was beautiful at night. Historically, St. Peter’s Basilica is speculated to be the burial site of the Apostle Peter. It was also interesting to see that here in Rome, they have guards with machine guns at the tourist sites. This caught me off guard for a second, but it is nice to know that if something were to happen that there would be someone to protect people.
Down the street, we visited the Castle of St. Angelo along the river. We also walked along the bridge which had statues of angels. There were also street performers and vendors trying to sell souvenirs.
For dinner we stopped by a restaurant down the street from our apartment. I enjoyed a pizza with sausage, mushrooms, and mozzarella cheese. It was a great pizza! The only comment I have to make is that the appearance of the sausage reminded me of dollops of refried beans.
For our last stop of the night we got gelato. I enjoyed the lemon gelato outside on the patio as we watched people walk by.
